The University is one of the largest landowners in downtown Toronto, with the St. George Campus consisting of over 120 buildings, on 130 acres (53 hectares) of land, and with 1,196,000 gross square metres of facilities in Toronto’s downtown core. Together, this collection of uses, buildings and landscapes creates a special and distinct area of local, city- wide and global importance. Partnerships
We also share resources, knowledge, and experience across other University departments to bring the highest quality and most cost-effective development projects to the campus and community. In particular, we work closely with Spaces & Experiences who operates all of the University’s residential, parking, and campus event spaces; Facilities and Services (F&S) who provides property management and maintenance services; and the University’s Planning, Design and Construction (UPDC) department who lead all planning, design, municipal approvals, and construction management services.

Developments
U of T’s “4 Corners” development strategy is unique for another reason: U of T is leveraging its considerable experience in designing, developing and managing buildings to keep its real-estate development work in-house. The University wants to maintain as much control as possible over the properties it develops and partnerships it enters so it’s in a position to reap the most benefits. The University will take an active management role in all third-party partnerships in order to: 1) protect the University’s academic mission interests, 2) enhance the campus environment, and 3) manage the University’s risk.
